Dear Developer,
I’ve tested all leading text search apps, and AnyTXT is the best.
I now use AnyTXT a lot. Searching through my library of 700+ PDF files brings several suggestions for improving this otherwise excellent utility.
Suggestion 1. Get rid of the “Path:=>Custom Directory” item.
Instead, allow the “Input any text …” field to be left empty, indicating a request for the same function as in “Custom Directory”.
Also, when in the “walking the directory structure” mode, it would be extremely helpful to see what files – of the types indicated in the “Type(s):” field – are in the displayed directories.
Suggestion 2. Tighten up Path(s) rules for indexing specific folders.
An example. Under “Only exclude specific folder(s)” I entered “C:\Program Files”.
As a result, the folder “C:\Program Files (x86)” and its subfolders were excluded from searches, too.
The following differentiation would fix this problem:
– As before, the string “C:\Program Files” (with no “\” at the end of the string) excludes all folders
whose names begin with it (e.g., “C:\Program Files (x86)” would be one of the excluded folders)
– String “C:\Program Files\” (an “\” added to the end of the string) would exclude only its subfolders.
In this case, “C:\Program Files (x86)\” and its subfolders would not be excluded from searches.
Suggestion 3. Bookmarks.
– Add a keyboard shortcut for “Organize Bookmark” in the
“Bookmark (B)=>Add To Bookmarks Ctrl+D=>Organize Bookmark” menu.
– Rename “Organize Bookmark” into something more accurate,
like “Use Bookmarks”, and create an Alt+U shortcut for it.
– Add a “Search by” column to the left of the “Name” column and move the “[…]” item from the “Name” column to it.
– In the new “Search by” column, save full search criteria
(whichever search type – Advance Search, Whole Match, or Regular Match – was requested
at the time when a Bookmark was saved).
Suggestion 4. Adjust the CMD line interface to the new “Search by” column (with a couple of additional improvements).
atgui /s keywords [d/ drive) [/e file extension) ==>
atgui /s full search criteria string [d/ folder path) [/e file extension(s)) and
atgui /s full search criteria string [d/ filer path) [/e file extension(s))
While the existing CMD interface is too restrictive to be useful,
these improvements will allow AnyTXT to be called from custom scripts using its functionality more fully.
Thanks!
Suggestion 5. It would be great if PDFs could be displayed with the same text flow as in the original file instead of breaking paragraphs into single lines.
