This is an interesting project, and certainly the search part of it works well.  However, I had to uninstall it, because it uses an unfortunate amount of CPU even on a fairly new i9.

I could find no way to turn it off temporarily so that it didn’t consume resources in the background.  Yes, it’s fast when I search, but it might be a misnomer to call it fast if it slows me down for other tasks.  I’ve found my fan running more than before so I’m trying to identify what to scrap, and unfortunately AnyTXT, often being at the top of the list for CPU usage and near the top for disk usage in the background, reluctantly I had to let it go, at least for now.

Although CPU usage for it was often listed as being around 6% and a few MB/sec of disk usage, which might not seem too crazy, when I turn it off it takes me from background CPU usage often hitting 20% to it being below 10%, and the fan slows down.  I know from testing various machines that Task Manager is imperfect at measuring CPU usage, and I could have been a better beta-tester here and run more rigorous tests.  Maybe some other time when I don’t have other irons in the fire.  However, it’s clear that my computer is less stressed with uninstalling this thing.

I certainly am not here to bitch in a public forum.  I didn’t see another way to express this.  This wonderful project and projects like it have my full support, and I love what you are trying to do here.  I do still have it installed on another little machine which has less text to search.  I love alternatives to Google’s and Microsoft’s software, and certainly Microsoft’s search bot can also consume resources at times, even though it’s actual search functionality pales in comparison to what you provide (I would even call it terrible, even after decades of development).

I haven’t checked background usage throughout the day to see what the level is during various tasks, and it might be well-behaved when other software is using a lot of CPU.  It might also be possible to configure it in such a way that it only searches what I really need searched, rather than terabytes of stuff that I don’t really need to search.

Resource-usage aside, my one big big suggestion is allowing people to easily find a way to temporarily disable all background usage.  I almost never keep installed software that doesn’t let me do that.  The Everything search utility for example is better behaved in this regard, so it’s still installed and doing no trouble in the background so far as I can tell.  It’s easier to troubleshoot if you can at least keep software installed.  So then you can test it out at your leisure.  I’m less likely to go back and reinstall something that has caused an issue than to troubleshoot something that is still installed (but not running all the time in the background).

Yes, I know that there are brute-force ways to disable services or startup apps, but if I’m going to do that, I might as well just uninstall the software.

In any case, I love what you are trying to do, and I am deeply grateful to anyone who contributes software for free to the public.  I try hard to support those people and avoid what I regard as evil empires like Adobe who profit from highway-robbery-level subscription fees.  So I send my gratitude out to all of those developers and my best wishes.  And I will check back in, and maybe give it another shot.  It is a very interesting project, and clearly there is some sweet engineering involved in it.

Now: to figure out how to get Edge and OneDrive off of this machine!  Just kidding, that’s a Mission Impossible.

    Hello, my friend.

Thank you very much for your attention and testing of the software.

We are optimizing this, subsequent versions will have similar setting entrances such as “high performance mode” and “balanced mode”,you can choose the mode according to your needs.

While profitability isn’t our primary goal,we are exploring revenue streams to ensure the software’s continued development and upgrades.

Thank you for your continued attention to Anytxt.
