GuestI would like to index all of my local Thunderbird profile, but Thunderbird stores messages in files that do not have an extension, and I can find no way to get Anytxt to index these.
Help!

ModeratorHello,friend.
Anytxt can only process files with an extension at present.
I have recorded your request and it will be submitted to the technicians, please notice to Anytxt subsequent release versions.
Thank you for your feedback.

GuestI’ve just installed anytxt and I have exactly this issue. I notice this post is originally from 2024, so have things moved on since then – is there now a way to include files without an extension?
For what it’s worth, I *may* have a temporary workaround, although it’s very messy. I’ve created a completely separate ‘proxy’ folder on the same drive as the Thunderbird data, and in there I’ve created a hardlink (“mklink /h” or “new-item -ItemType HardLink ..”) to one of the data files “fred”, so that the hardlink is called fred.mbox. I’ve then added the mbox extension to the index manager so it only indexes that proxy folder. This *appears* to work, so now I’ll try and write a small powershell script to trawl the Thunderbird folder and create/remove hardlinks in the proxy folder as necessary.
This is very much a hack-it-and-see approach, so if anyone can point out issues or better approaches, I’m very happy to hear them! (I should note that I first tried ‘symboliclink’ which didn’t work, so I assume anytxt effectively gets passed the original filename and then spots the lack of extension.)
Generally speaking I’m not a big fan of hardlinks – they have their place but navigation can become confusing – so I’d like to hope this is a temporary requirement (or that someone can suggest a better alternative :-))
